Hi Heidi!
I ended up becoming friends with a lot of the gatekeepers by accident. I emailed Dawn, who works for Danielle Laporte, to get access to the Fire Starter Sessions affiliate program. We hit it off and chatted for a bit. I really like her. It may help if I wanted to touch base with Danielle but I prefer talking to Dawn 'coz she's awesome. Same with Lara Kulpa and several of my other friends.
And I agree. People usually get chosen for a reason. Dave chose me to act as his gatekeeper because I'm so darn awesome at it. And, being rude to me is likely to make me talk about you negatively. Us gatekeepers know a LOT ofpeople.
And, thanks :-) I'm starting to realize that it is a talent. I'm still recovering from anxiety so it has been really hard to reach out, but I'm learning that I do things in a way that other people can't. I'm looking at ways to monetize it next year.
Thanks for the lovely comment :) The positive feedback from this interview has been great.
Just wanted to say thanks guys for the mention on the podcast, and thanks for the info you sent me today Jade!!!
Awesome interview, with some great information; I'm especially glad that Jade talked about not just using the Gatekeepers in order to gain access to someone else. I keep hearing this 'tactic' of getting on the radar of those that influence the influencers, and while it makes sense strategically, it's always made me feel a little "ick" to think of making friendly with someone just because of who they know. If nothing else, anyone who is in the position to be a gatekeeper is likely to be worth getting to know for the value that they offer as themselves.
I'd also like to say to Jade, you're an incredible lady with an amazing talent; it may seem natural to you, and therefore weird to monetize, but it's a valuable skill that not everyone has. For instance, as much as I love people, and love to help people, I'm a major wall-flower. It's painfully hard for me to reach out and meet new people, or make those connections that come so naturally to you. From my perspective, your skills (however natural) are nearly priceless... because they are skills that I need, but don't naturally have!
Yes, if you listened to some bloggers, you'd think we were all raking in the money.
P.S. people always comment on my voice, I have a mild Scots accent & the Americans just go nuts for it - I've decided I should capitalise on it and do lots more audio :-)
Thanks :) What I do is so natural that I have no idea if anything I say is useful. Glad it could help and lemme know if you need other recommendations of interviewees. I've listened to most of the newer ones.
I'm friends with a lot of the big names - Blogworld made me realize that some of them actually see me as their equal. So I really, really feel weird about how I've held back a LOT from the money side. It's different and not something most people talk about.
:P Some people in Vegas heard my accent and either couldn't understand me or know what i was saying. I never noticed it before.
It was so refreshing to hear Jade's take on monetization - it's not been a big thing for me either & I'm fine with that but sometimes I do feel a bit daft for not being more into the money side. Great interview, thanks guys - and so cool to hear Jade's brilliant Aussie accent.
